General update
19Oct06A lot is going on and if I took the time to formulate an individual blog post for each topic, the wedding itself would be in jeopary. So here is a brief account of our happy time preparing for the arrival all our family and friends, or at least those able to attend the reception.
Tomorrow, we will be meeting with the officient that will be conducting our civil ceremony and afterwards, with the DJ. We’ll be playing a mix of contemporary persian and western (not as in country western) music, and some classics too. If you have any requests, please let us know ahead of time!
Sanaz’s dress is almost done; only the hem remains to be stitched. I haven’t seen it. It’s bad luck. So they say.
On Saturday, after my first fitting at Spiros, Sanaz and I and her mom will be meeting with the people who we thought would be our florists. After some unreturned messages, we’d almost given up on them and began looking around. Now, we’re not quite sure who to go with, but at least we’re sure what we want. Sanaz’s mom has been invaluable in this process by spending Mondays with Sanaz and often Sundays (the only day Sanaz and I have off simultaneously) with the both of us going here and there. This past labour day, we had a mom festival, and I was blessed to have mine with me too as we finalized the cake details.
We were originally looking at pastry in the modern style: thick icing coverings, rounded edges, stacked, not elevated multi-tiered cakes. After trying a number of samples, I wasn’t too impressed with the actual taste of most of the cake/icing combinations. Like many other things, they may have looked nice, but it’s what’s on the inside that counts. I much preferred the traditional Iranian style cake samples over these newer concoctions, and that’s what we’re going for, in the end.
My mom has been a tremendous help also, staining frames while she was here, polishing the family silver from afar, and sewing and assembling baggies… We began by wanting to have a really simple wedding, and in the end, it is simply amazing just how much work goes into doing even that. Admittedly, Sanaz and I are discerning. We have taste. Fortunately, our tastes coincide most of the time.

Sanaz has been really into the blog. I can’t blame her. I think it’s just fantastic. But then again, I’m a bit of a technologist. Although kinda geeky, I think it has the ability to bring us all closer together, as there are guests on both sides that have yet to meet one another (or us even!). I installed some tracking code over the weekend and we can now see, amongst other statistics the concentration of visitors to the site by geography (see above). It’s really exciting; we’re getting a lot of traffic! Sanaz has done a brilliant job of uploading most of the photographs in the gallery. If you haven’t checked out the images you should! We recently added some examples of our artwork.
Coming soon: a post on the issue of gift giving (we’ve been getting questions that deserve answereing) and a post with details on Toronto hotels for those of you coming from out of town.

A toast to the soon to be newlyweds:
May you be poor in misfortune,
Rich in blessings,
Slow to make ennemies,
Quick to make friends,
But rich or poor, quick or slow,
May you find nothing but happiness
From this day forward
Please give my friends Lucie and René a big hug for me.
